Eccentric Japanese inventor Dr. Yoshiro NakaMats has been awarded the 2005 Ig Nobel Prize in Nutrition for photographing every meal he has eaten for the past 35 years. With 3,000 patents to his name, Dr. NakaMats consults the photographs to analyze his recent diet whenever he conceives of a new idea, in an effort to discover foods that are most conducive to creativity. Although this may seem like a lot of trouble to go to, NakaMats only eats a single daily 700-calorie meal in the evening, so only a single photo per day is requried. NakaMats reckons that his diet regime, which includes seaweed and chicken livers, will allow him to live to the age of 144.
Dr. NakaMats’s early inventions included part of the technology used in the development of IBM’s original floppy disk, but in recent decades his inventions have tended towards things like “Dr. NakaMats’ Love Jel,” a sexual lubricant developed to combat the problem of Japan’s low birth rate by increasing sexual pleasure by 300% (although his “Dr. NakaMats Condom” seems to have cancelled out any fertility benefit from the jel).
