How did Janet Jackson lose 60 pounds in 4 months?
According to Janet Jackson, her dramatic weight loss is the result of good old fashioned diet and exercise. Lots of exercise and a very, very strict diet.
Out went the cakes and high calorie snacks. She especially missed her favourite dishes of pasta, catfish and candied yams.
With the help of US diet guru David Allen, Janet stuck to four or five healthy, low-fat meals a day and she admits it was hard work sticking to the 1,150 to 1,450 calories a day plan. "The diet was very strict. It was all about the discipline," she says.
Janet Jackson's diet was combined with a gruelling exercise program- which wasn't her favorite part. "I hate - I can't say it enough - I hate working out," she admits. Her training regime was drawn up by Tony Martinez, who has been her personal trainer for nine years.
Following below is a sample menu plan from Janet Jackson's diet and her effective exercise routine.
THE MEALS
BREAKFAST
6 scrambled egg whites and 1/3 cup of oatmeal OR 3oz chicken sausage
LUNCH
4oz chicken breast and mixed salad OR baked yam and steamed green beans
AFTERNOON SNACK
3oz grilled shrimp and 1 cup mixed vegetables OR 3oz turkey breast and 1 Cup of butternut squash
DINNER
4 oz steak with 15 grilled asparagus spears
OR 4oz grilled salmon with couscous and grilled vegetables
EXERCISE
Since Janet Jackson has never liked working out, trainer Tony Martinez devised a fun regime.
She has to work out six days a week with 45 minutes of cardio plus sumo squats and backward walking lunges.
He also includes running, walking and some boxing.
JANET JACKSON'S TRAINER'S EXTRA TIPS
Take the stairs so you get a bit more exercise.
Go for a walk somewhere pretty and you won't realize you are actually exercising.
Keep up the cardio exercises for 45 minutes - it takes 20 minutes to start to burn body fat.
Do a different workout each day.
Keep it fun.
AND JANET JACKSON'S TOP TIPS
Watch the size of your portions. Janet was allowed four meals a day totalling between 1,150 and 1,450 calories.
Eat regularly. "You will hold on to body fat if you miss meals," Janet says.
Get some sleep. "Sleep is very important to weight loss," Janet says.
Studies show the less sleep you get, the more you feel hungry.
Dump the junk.
