The Atkins Diet or just Atkins, is a popular but controversial high-protein, high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet. Started by Dr. Robert Atkins in a series of books, starting with Dr. Atkins' Diet Revolution in 1972.

The Atkins Diet attributes many eating disorders are the result of excessive secretion of insulin caused by eating too many carbohydrates. This causes food cravings and unstable blood sugar levels, which can cause a number of health problems. The Atkins Diet calimes to stabilize blood sugar levels, controlling cravings and reducing appetite.

There are many outspoken advocates and critics of The Atkins Diet.
